Union minister Manohar Lal flags off ‘EV rally’ in Delhi in bid to curb pollution | Delhi News

NEW DELHI: Union power minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched an “EV Rally” on Sunday in Delhi to promote the use of electric vehicles and help combat the city’s pollution problem. The rally was part of Convergence Energy Services Limited’s (CESL) “EV as a Service” event.

Khattar emphasized the program’s importance in addressing Delhi’s pollution crisis, stating, “Today, the event ‘EV as a Service’ has been started for a noble cause. A place like Delhi was in need of such an initiative. In the first phase, we will convert government vehicles, including those of government officers, to electric vehicles.”

The minister participated in the event by riding a bicycle and a tractor, highlighting the government’s commitment to eco-friendly initiatives. He pointed out that industrial activities, construction, and transportation have all contributed to the increase in carbon dioxide levels, which in turn worsens Delhi’s air pollution.
“We have increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere artificially through industries, construction, and even transport, which all contribute to rising pollution. To reduce pollution, we have introduced various solutions, and one of them is electric vehicles,” the minister said.
The “EV as a Service” program aims to promote electric vehicles as a sustainable alternative to traditional vehicles. This initiative comes as Delhi continues to struggle with severe air pollution. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the city’s air quality was recorded in the “very poor” category on Sunday morning.
