New Delhi: Two more incidents of extortion calls made by “gangsters” have surfaced in Delhi. A jeweller and a gym owner received threatening calls this week from individuals claiming to be members of different criminal gangs.
In a complaint filed by the jeweller, who is a resident of Rohini, he claimed to have received a call on Nov 6 from an unknown number. The caller identified himself as a member of the Kala Jathedi gang. According to the jeweller, the caller issued a direct threat and demanded extortion.
The complainant further told cops that the threat did not stop there. The very next day, the jeweller received another call from the same number. The caller again claimed to be associated with the Kala Jathedi gang. The tone of the call was even more menacing, as the extortionist warned the jeweller that if his demands were not met, there would be dire consequences for both the jeweller and his store. The caller gave the jeweller a deadline of just two days to meet the gang’s demands.
Investigations are now underway as law enforcement officials are making efforts to track down the perpetrators.
In another incident, the owner of a gym in west Delhi’s Nangloi received a ransom demand of Rs two crore from an international number, allegedly in the name of jailed gangster Deepak Boxer. Police are investigating the matter. The recent ransom demand by the Boxer gang has left the gym owner and the community shaken.
A few days ago, armed shooters went on a rampage, firing indiscriminately at two business establishments in Paschim Vihar and Chhawla, following extortion demands from UK-based gangster Kapil Sangwan.
