JPC chairman Jagdambika Pal to visit Karnataka on Nov 7 to meet farmers protesting Waqf notices
JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal

NEW DELHI: Jagdambika Pal, the chairman of the Joint Committee of Parliament examining the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, will be in Karnataka on Thursday. His visit comes amidst protests by farmers who were issued notices, later retracted, for alleged encroachment on Waqf properties.
Pal is expected to interact with farmer groups and religious institutions during his visit. BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, also a committee member, confirmed the visit on social media.
In a post on X on Tuesday, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, “Chairman of JPC on Waqf has kindly consented to my request to visit Hubli and Bijapur on November 7 to interact with farmers affected by the Waqf’s predatory action.”
The notices, attributed to a gazette error, were withdrawn by the ruling Congress government in Karnataka following backlash. The BJP has, however, linked the issue to the Congress’s political strategy.
The parliamentary committee’s visit to Karnataka is a part of its broader consultation process. The committee is scheduled to visit Guwahati, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Patna, and Lucknow between November 9th and 14th to gather views from various stakeholders on the proposed amendments to the Waqf Bill.
